BAMBINI - "One World" (by Roberta Donnay)
A nostalgic photojournalistic expression of powerful, intelligent, insightful, and provocative imagery by Marino Colmano set to the song One World.
"One World" (by Roberta Donnay) was originally written and performed for the United Nations' 50th Anniversary at a performance sponsored by SGI (Soka Gakkai International).
It became an official theme of the UN50.
Performed for 188 delegates in 1994 and at the official celebrations in 1995, the song was also introduced the same year as a world peace theme in Japan at the Minon World Peace conventions.
The song was chosen to welcome Rosa Parks to San Francisco (1995) by a school in the Mission District. The students performed the song. Also, in 1995 a group of first graders performed One World at a performance for UN 50 at the De Young Museum as part of the children's recital.
The Minon Orchestra ( from Tokyo ) toured the song as a theme song for peace conventions in and outside of Japan.
It was performed at peace conventions in Italy, Korea, and Vietnam, then was adopted by schools in the United States, chosen by students to be their graduation theme.
In 1998, Roberta Donnay was invited to sing One World at The People's Assembly with 130 representatives from around the world. That same year, the song was produced as a single (by Joel Jaffe) and distributed by Rainforest Records, administered by Bug Music.
One World was performed and toured by orphans in Ethiopia after being adopted by The People's Assembly.
In 1999 Roberta was invited to perform the song at THE HAGUE APPEAL FOR PEACE in the Netherlands. The song was performed for benefits for Nicaragua, the rally for the Chinese people of Indonesia, members of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, Mother's Day Peace Pilgrimage, for the City of Hayward, and countless other peace & city functions.
During a midwest tour of the US in 2001 (Sept 12-24), Roberta was requested to perform One World accapella on public radio in Madison, WI.
The song was performed by BEYOND BORDERS students (multi-cultural summer program ~ see www.mcds.org) as their finale performance, with Carlos Santana in attendance. The children performed the song in English, Spanish, and in sign language.
The song was used in 2003 as the theme for 2 AIDS benefits in South Africa. The song was performed as both intro and finale of the benefits.
One World is currently being used as a theme at Earth Day and at Earth Charter events, and at school graduations around the US.

The prison system in this country is and has been a "band aid for a bullet wound" There will always be people that need to be in jail. But this system is focused on money and looking good. Thats all it is.

I felt compelled to translate Lina's Greek from the above comment: "Having the same dream as Polixeni and her husband and having lived the same painful experience with Haris losing my beloved Vassilis at the exact same time, I feel very moved every time I see this video of the talented Marinio who captures with such art the dreams." Lina Tseliou

"Polixeni's Dream" is an extraordinary film. I have never wept, smiled, laughed, and grimaced (with compassion for the construction process) thorough a movie as I have this one. It touched my soul as you so well presented the circle of life, and your symbolism throughout brought such a deep emotional response I cannot describe. The story is a powerful study of life from building dreams and enduring great loss to being triumphant thorough all the hardships and sorrow that can befall one family, including a pandemic, a war, challenges acquiring material, and working within the constraints of municipal bureaucracy. Even the neighbors' challenges of cleaning construction dust and enduring the mess was portrayed brilliantly. Capturing Polixeni's visit was remarkable and is among the mysteries that are evident throughout the film. The blessing of the home is a tradition passed from generation to generation and is the foundation of their families' belief system, which you portrayed daily throughout construction. Nothing is more moving than hearing Polixeni's husband tell his story, from the dark black/white interview to the light, colored interview. You brilliantly added to this with the background television running a video of life in Arkoudi - especially a grandmother holding a new born child. Wow! Introducing those who labored on the house is brilliant. Their work was arduous - but isn't everything that is worthwhile and good that way? So many critical moments you captured - falling through the structure due to an untied shoe, frustrations of workers with one another, a young man learning a trade from the wise mentor. You captured life. And your music brilliantly set the mood and tone during the ups and downs of the construction process - just as life, and the sea, flows. I so enjoyed the way you showed the passing of time; the child on the swing through day and night, the passing ship, the turtle and the crab, the flying of a kite, sunrise, sunset, and the moon - everything going through their cycles - such is life. Finally, when the family is greeted with loving hugs to Polixeni's Dream with delight and joy, you captured the great emotions felt by so many. The patriarch of the family sitting proudly, yet humbly, in the garden is dynamic. The cycle of life, love, loss, and creation. You captured it all. Please thank Hari and his family for sharing this very emotional and bitter sweet time with us through your lens. Indeed, Marino, "You brought it to life!" Dreams never vanish..... John Cutaia 4-10-23. In re: 'Quattro Stagione' , , ,Very pleased to see that your keeping your "hand in" and actively continuing to create wonderful films! You chose a great piece of music to illustrate, via well edited clips, with perfect tempo and rhythm . . . Annie and I enjoyed your capo lavoro. However, this video, 'SPIRITO ITALIA" is WONDERFUL! For the moment I'm at a loss for the right Superlative to express how you brought me back to my many times having been there, since my first visit (1951) until these current times,.Enchanting, capturing in Toto, a spirit of place. Non voglio lusingarti troppo ma sei davvero un maestro nel riuscire a cogliere i momenti dello "Spirito di Luogo" non solo le persone ma anche i luoghi! Complimenti a te, mio caro amico. (I don't want to flatter you too much but you are really a master in being able to capture the moments of the "Spirit of Place" not only the people but also the places! Congratulations to you, my dear friend.) If this doesn't whet a persons appetite to visit Italia, nothing will. BRAVO Marino! J.C.

I enjoyed this very much. It is so moving...an emotional experience, a roller coaster ride up and down never knowing how it will end until very late in the story. An intimate portrait of a cultural event as much as it is a construction tale. The teenage boy learning masonry craft, the young man welding without a mask, hell, all the workers working without protection one would usually expect adds in subtle ways to tension throughout the movie that you intended, I am sure. Well done! Scenes that stand out for me: Spraying an adobe plaster on the exterior walls with sandy soil from the property. And the many progress shots, showing the first, and then final steps of so many phases of the project give it a unique pace, a rhythm. You must have edited hundreds of hours to accomplish this and to view it as a smooth, polished whole leads me to appreciate the enormous effort you put into it. The multiple backstories of troubles with workers, suppliers, weather, illness, death, war, and life changes give it a surprising richness and make it come alive. The ideal musical score woven into the story is perfect for not being intrusive, yet setting a generally light-hearted mood that gives your whole creation a happy documentary feel. Above all, it is humanity that glows like your superb sunset frames. That crystal clear image is in the end the glue that holds this wonderful film together more than anything else.
